The admissions process at Ellenhorn is especially thorough. That’s because we want to make sure that the clients we admit into the program are a good fit for our unique model.

Service levels

The cost for treatment following the first month are based on the level and intensity of services needed by our clients. When clients near the end of our first month with Ellenhorn, we have a good picture of these levels, and can inform clients and their families of such. These levels most often decrease over time, but can also increase depending upon what is occurring for our clients.

Transition

A client is likely to see their psychiatrist once or twice a month and members of their team two to three times a week.

Low

All of our treatment services; a client is usually seen one to two times daily by members of their team.

Medium

All of our treatment services; a client is usually seen two to three times daily by members of their team.

High

All of our treatment services; a client is usually seen three to four times daily by members of their team.

High/Extensive

All of our treatment services; a client is usually seen four to five times daily by members of their team.

Where we service

Supportive living

We believe in the curative force of home, and are convinced that people recover best in their own residences and in neighborhoods—and this includes people who might be quite distressed by serious psychiatric experiences. As the most intensive mental-health outreach program in the United States, we see ourselves as an alternative to hospital or residential levels of care, a sort of hospital or residential program “without walls.”

While it is impossible for us to serve all our clients from their home locales, we’re dedicated to helping them build homes, and connect to their communities in the Boston, New York and Los Angeles areas. Most of our clients live on their own, in their own apartment, condo or house. Some begin care at our staffed home in Arlington, called Brackett House.

Many people come to Ellenhorn from across the country and around the world, others might have just entered adulthood and never lived on their own, while still others might feel that living in a supervised group setting makes sense at the start of care. For these people, we offer several supportive housing options whether at Brackett House or through one of our many housing partners.

Let our admissions clinicians help. They can review the cost structure and what to expect with fees. We understand this is a stressful time for families. We’d love to hear from you and help you navigate the complicated behavioral-health system.

Boston supportive housing

Many people come to Ellenhorn from across the country and around the world, others might have just entered adulthood and never lived on their own, while still others might feel that living in a supervised group setting makes sense at the start of care. For these people, we offer Brackett House.

Arlington, Massachusetts
Brackett House

Formerly a bed-and-breakfast, Brackett House at 87 Pleasant Street offers round-the-clock staffed care in a noninstitutional, home-like setting. Brackett House offers home-cooked meals using the best-quality ingredients—mostly organic and locally grown.

Brackett House provides 24-hour staffing and highest staff-to-client ratio of all our homes.

New York supportive housing

We have warm relationships with several professionally staffed living programs in New York City. Ellenhorn and these programs have worked together to develop a specific plan for collaborative care and clear communication with Ellenhorn’s PACT team while Ellenhorn clients reside in their homes. For more information on New York City supportive-housing options, please contact admissions at (800) 515-9972.

Los Angeles supportive housing

Santa Monica, California
Haus Recovery

We are proud to have forged a partnership with HAUS Recovery. This collaboration allows us to offer comprehensive support and ensure that clients have access to stable and nurturing environments as they embark on their journey toward personal growth and well-being. Ellenhorn’s commitment to providing holistic care extends beyond our partnership with HAUS.

We think about housing differently

Unlike other apartment-based programs in which clients live in apartments owned and furnished by the program, we either serve the majority of our clients where they already live or help them find an apartment, condo or house for themselves. We focus on our clients rebuilding their social roles as part of treatment, and see this process (dealing with landlords, purchasing furniture, decorating their homes, cooking and feeding themselves, and keeping things organized and clean) as a central part of such. All along, our intensive team is helping, often side by side.

“The admissions process was incredibly reassuring. As a parent that was in a place that felt scary as we had had so many different therapies and programs for our child, I felt anxiety thinking about and even wanting to hope that this next program might be helpful to our daughter. Our admissions counselor and her calm, professional and knowledgeable presence on the other end of the phone was a wonderful beginning.”

Admissions process

Our admissions staff is composed of licensed clinicians able to help you understand our program both from a clinical perspective as well as a logistical one.

To make a referral to Ellenhorn, please call (800) 515-9972. We typically respond to all calls within 24 hours.

01

To begin the admissions process, we first speak to the person calling, whether that’s the referring clinician, family member or the client.

02

Once we have all the information, the admissions team speaks with a client’s recent treaters and evaluates their records from other programs or hospitals.

03

Finally, we conduct an in‑depth interview with the client in order to fill in any gaps, which allows us ultimately to decide whether Ellenhorn might be a good fit.
