Dr. Adam Lowy, M.D.

Medical Director, LA Program

Dr. Adam Lowy is an eclectic psychiatrist who believes in combining various forms of psychotherapy with medication in order to achieve optimal psychiatric treatment. Despite the fact that he enrolled at Harvard College as an aspiring writer, graduating magna cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in biology, his passion for literature and the arts has remained relevant in his life and his work in psychiatry. After graduating from Harvard Medical School, he completed his adult psychiatric training at Cambridge Hospital in Cambridge, Mass., and Sheppard and Enoch Pratt Hospital in Baltimore, Md. Dr. Lowy also considers his fellowship with the American Psychoanalytic Association and supervision by Dr. Leston Havens as pivotal to his training. He has completed more than 200 studies in schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, major depression and substance dependence, and has had works published in the fields of immunology, cellular biology and psychiatry. His clinical work has included practice and administration of inpatient psychiatric services, substance-dependence programs (inpatient and outpatient) and assertive community treatment. He has served as team psychiatrist for the Washington Nationals baseball team and, most recently, as the director of psychiatric services for the Venice Family Clinic in Venice, Calif. He is thrilled to bring his various life and clinical experiences to his work at Ellenhorn.
