Joel Stanley, MHC

Joel is a mental-health counselor with a holistic, mindfulness and body-centered approach to therapy. He earned his master’s degree in clinical mental-health counseling from Lesley University in Cambridge, Mass., and also holds a master’s degree in applied drama (theater in educational, social and communal contexts) from Goldsmiths, University of London, and a bachelor’s degree in English literature and language from the University of Oxford. Joel is trained in EMDR therapy and takes a human-centered approach to counseling by integrating various healing modalities, including mindfulness, spirituality and existential therapy, somatic awareness, and movement. Joel’s clinical experience includes college counseling and outpatient settings, where he has worked especially with young adults as both a mental-health counselor and in community organizing, social services and management. In addition to his PACT work at Ellenhorn, Joel is a teacher of 5Rhythms dance and movement meditation, an embodiment practice which informs his approach to counseling.
