Matt Bernstein, MD

Dr. Matt Bernstein is passionate about constantly learning as much as he can to help people achieve their best functioning. After graduating from Columbia University summa cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in English literature, he received his MD from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. Dr. Bernstein trained at the MGH-McLean Psychiatry residency-training program, where he served as chief resident. Dr. Bernstein remained at McLean after residency as a psychiatrist-in-charge, later serving as assistant medical director of the Schizophrenia and Bipolar Inpatient Program. His other roles at McLean included medical director of the Substance Abuse Residential Treatment Program, and attending psychiatrist and substance abuse consultant at the Pavilion. He continues his teaching affiliation with McLean and Harvard Medical School. Dr. Bernstein also has a private practice in psychopharmacology and psychotherapy. He has developed a passion for alternative ways to help individuals achieve better outcomes without relying solely on traditional psychiatric approaches, which includes a focus on metabolism, nutrition, and exercise in brain function. He has proudly been a Psychiatrist at Ellenhorn since 2010.
