Sergé Nelson has nurtured a rich career in nursing by staying firmly grounded in her belief in the unifying power of our shared humanity. A lifetime learner, she earned undergraduate degrees in biological sciences and nursing from Southern University and A & M College in Baton Rouge, La.; a master’s degree in public administration from Louisiana State University, also in Baton Rouge; a doctorate in nursing with a focus on executive leadership from MGH Institute of Health Professions in Boston, Mass.; and completed the California Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental and Related Disabilities fellowship program at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles/University of Southern California Keck School of Medicine.

Sergé’s enduring commitment to championing individuals challenged with mental health disorders has flourished through a diverse array of nursing roles. Her professional journey has encompassed leadership roles in post-acute care, public health and psychiatric mental health services, and she has collaboratively guided dually diagnosed adults and individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities through a myriad of inpatient, outpatient and residential care programs throughout greater Los Angeles. In her pursuit of integrated community nursing, Sergé has gained a profound appreciation for using innovative approaches to help individuals attain their optimal outcomes, and she is eager to contribute the knowledge she has gained to help further the mission of Ellenhorn.
