Simon Jay is licensed clinical social worker who earned a bachelor’s degree in English Literature from The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth and a master’s degree in social work from Simmons University in Boston, Massachusetts. Since then, Simon’s professional journey in mental-heath care has included stints as a counselor for adolescents with high-functioning autism, a mental-health specialist within an inpatient crisis-stabilization unit, a group-home manager for transitional-age youth and, just prior to joining the team at Ellenhorn, an adult outpatient therapist. Simon’s experiences, education and varied perspectives within the realm of recovery have brought certain concepts to the center of his treatment approach, namely the unique cultural/environmental characteristics of each individual and the fundamental power of therapeutic relationship . Simon also prioritizes collaboration and a strengths-based approach that integrates humor and evidence-based therapeutic practices such as cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, narrative therapy and internal family systems therapy. Simon also strives to include the use of media (music, movies, literature, video games) in any and all aspects of his work.
