Sophia Plotkin brings diverse experience in the mental-health field to her position as a social worker and PACT clinician at Ellenhorn Los Angeles. Sophia, who draws on curiosity and innovation in her work with clients and communities, earned a bachelor’s degree in sociology from Sonoma State University in Rohnert Park, California, and a master’s degree in social welfare from the University of California, Los Angeles. Prior to joining Ellenhorn, she supported foster youth as a family counselor and program supervisor in San Francisco, and worked as a therapist in community-based mental health and residential treatment in Los Angeles.
Sophia utilizes a trauma-informed and strengths-based approach to treatment that incorporates mindfulness, narrative therapy, and expressive arts and movement to provide space for integration, exploration and creativity. She believes in viewing each client holistically, taking into consideration the many factors that make up the unique self, and honoring self-determination and unconditional positive regard as guiding values in the work of personal transformation. Above all, Sophia believes in leading with compassion and hope in order to empower clients to access personal power and actualize their dreams and desires.
